Creation of a wildlife garden

A half acre field to a stunning haven for nature

In 2021, Emma began working on the transformation of her garden to turn it from not much more than a field with a couple of small borders into a garden that would attract a wide variety of wildlife. She designed the garden with the main feature to be a large pond surrounded by flower beds. In the design Emma also incorporated a small orchard, raised beds for vegetable growing, a willow arch, island beds and a wildflower meadow area. She carried out all the work herself apart from excavation of the pond. Emma has planted over 2500 trees, shrubs and plants to attract birds, insects, mammals and amphibians. The design included habitat creation and featured bird boxes, bee hotels and hedgehog houses. Emma has found it incredibly rewarding to watch the garden fill with so much wildlife, to hear the buzzing of bees, listen to the birds singing and to see bats, and hedgehogs at night.
Please have a look at the gallery below which shows the transformation from start to finish.
